I Tried Using Crystals For a Month, Here’s What Happened
By: Megan Wilson
Like many 20-something-year-olds, I’m all about finding ways to align my chakras and balance my energy. So, I bought crystals. Crystal comes from the Greek word for ‘ice.’ The earliest amulets are of Baltic amber dating back 30,000 years. Ancient Egyptians used crystals in jewelry, ancient Greeks used them in the same way we do today, and Jade was a very popular crystal among the ancient Chinese. Some people use them around their house for decoration and others really believe in their healing abilities. Regardless of how they’re used, the trend is huge.
I took it upon myself to incorporate crystals into my surroundings for a month in order to see what all the hype is about and if there is any truth to the seemingly magical properties of these pretty little things.
There are different types of crystals and each one is believed to have a different property. Some are healing crystals that are known to relieve stress and anxiety, and others have been known to help in manifesting anything from career success to more confidence, or even better relationships.
There are dozens of different types of crystals ranging from the size of a grape to a boulder. For my research purposes, I kept them small.

Clear quartz
The clear quartz is an energizing crystal. It works on the mind and body, amplifying and transmitting energy and clarifying thought processes. It’s great in conjunction with another crystal to make it stronger. It improves your memory and clarity of mind. This is a universal crystal that aligns all chakras. Basically, it’s a great crystal for someone who just wants a clear head and peace of mind.
Admittedly, I just bought a Citrine crystal because it looked cool. Citrine is an energizing stone that provides happiness, courage, hope, and warmth. It is said to enhance self-esteem, self-expression, and creativity. The citrine does not hold any negative energy. It actually transforms it into positive energy!
I read online that you shouldn’t sleep with clear quartz in your bedroom because it disrupts your sleep. Over the course of the last few weeks, I slept with the clear quartz on my nightstand. Sometimes I forgot to take it out of my room and other times, it was intentionally left just to see. I can confirm that is true. On the nights it was on my nightstand, I either woke up in the middle of the night and had a hard time falling asleep again or I was in and out of sleep all night.
My conclusion
I was skeptical when I bought these because I’m not one to believe in magic and I didn’t understand how your life could be affected by some shiny rocks. But after a couple of weeks, I will say a lot of loose ends in my life have been tied up and I have been a lot happier and stress-free. Maybe these crystals are really aligning my chakras and clearing my mind, giving me more space to focus on becoming a better me. Placebo or not, you decide!
