By: Valeria Ramos
Gone are the daisy dukes, festival shorts, and cheeky denim shorts of summer’s past. Enter a nostalgic, 90s artifact—the jort. Jean shorts or “jorts” were a staple in the wardrobe of every ’90s mom and dad. This summer, they’re being revived and reclaimed by everyone from high fashion houses to Gen-Z fashionistas on TikTok. If you’re on the fence about this trend, keep reading for some inspiration on how to style this summer’s stand-out trend, the jort.
Jorts on the runway
The jort re-appeared on runways during the Spring 2023 season at shows like Gucci and Louis Vuitton Menswear. Paired with a blazer, chunky sneakers, and eccentric accessories, Louis Vuitton proves jorts to be a versatile piece. In short, there are no limits to how you can style these denim cutoffs.

How to style jorts
While designer runways traditionally catalyze trends, it’s street style that influences how many people put together their outfits. If you’re unsure how to style jorts, or just looking for more fashion-forward ideas, here are a few of our street style jort moments.

On the left, a stylish Paris Fashion Week attendee elevates a pair of classic light-wash jorts with black stilettos and a long-sleeve sequined top. If you’re looking for a fun, chic way to style jorts, look to this example for inspiration on how to make this trend suitable for date nights, cocktail parties, and more.
On the right, Bella Hadid looks straight out of the ’90s with a pair of frayed jorts, a mini crop top, tiny sunglasses, and a hobo bag. Her low-waist jorts are held up by a Jean Paul Gaultier x Supreme belt. While we’ve seen most jorts styled with sneakers, heels, and loafers, Bella makes the case for pairing jorts with tall boots. Bella opted for black Fidan Novruzova square-toed boots, but we recommend styling this look with cowboy boots or a pair of suede ankle booties.

For a more simple, everyday approach to the jort, style your cutoffs with a simple tee or tank, sneakers, minimal jewelry and accessories, and a shoulder bag. If you want to add an additional ’90s flare to the look, go for small, colored sunglasses, a choker, and a simple bralette to create a trendy yet comfortable look.
Where to buy jorts
The beauty of this trend is that you can thrift it and DIY it by cutting a pair o jeans into Bermudas. If you don’t want to take a pair of scissors to your favorite Levi’s though, here are a few places to buy quality jorts.
While we can’t guarantee this trend is here to stay, fashion has proved to revive long-lost trends and make them new again with each new season.
