A Fashion Analysis of BTS Style Icon J-Hope

Jung Hoseok, also known as J-Hope, is a member of the Grammy-nominated Korean pop group BTS. While rapping, dancing, and singing are the talents he’s known for, J-hope can add fashion styling to the list. A combination of streetwear and kidcore, most of the artists’ outfits are carefully accessorized, whether he’s on performing stage or boarding a plane, it’s safe to say J-Hope is the most fashionable member of BTS. Here are a few style takeaways from J-hope’s colorful closet that characterize his unique sense of fashion.
One thing this BTS member doesn’t restrict in his wardrobe is bright, vibrant colors. His looks often feature a pop of color that makes them look bright without being overdone. J-hope uses color as a way to incorporate playfulness into his fashion. This signature cheerfulness has birthed what BTS fans call the “Hobicore” aesthetic (“Hobi” being the singer’s nickname), inspiring many of them to craft their own DIY bead bracelets, bags, or jeans with colorful patterns.
“Pair an oversized item with a tight-fitting one” is a known rule in fashion, but it’s not one that J-hope lives up to. The singer makes his own fashion rules, often pairing baggy pants with equally oversized tops. While this choice can be risky and make your silhouette look bulky, when styled just right, it creates a very interesting look when worn with confidence. Because J-hope’s style leans more towards urban and streetwear, he typically sports wide pants or shorts, large coats, hoodies, and tees. Tight pants are a rare commodity in his wardrobe.
To J-hope, a look isn’t complete without a few accessories. In fact, his accessories are what tie his looks together. Bucket hats, funky sunglasses, large bags, and headbands are among his favorites. One of his favorites is a clear A-COLD-WALL bag, featuring a Murakami flower plush toy inside—an original way to accessorize and add color.
Blending his love of colors and streetwear, colorful and chunky sneakers are a must in J-hope’s wardrobe. His most notable looks include Balenciaga’s triple S sneakers and Louis Vuitton’s Archlight sneakers—statement shoes that stand out and draw eyes to them rather than blending in. These bold choices in footwear add an edge to his looks by giving them a unique silhouette.
