A Look at the Exuberant World of Fausto Puglisi
By: Yashua Edwards
Fausto Puglisi’s designs are bold, colorful, and unique. But, overall they radiate an exuberant feel that is all their own. From the sexy and bright colored looks from his Spring 2019 Ready-To-Wear collection to the astonishing prints and plunging necklines from his Fall 2019 Ready-To-Wear collection, Puglisi’s looks captivated me the second I saw them.
We’re going to take a look at his latest collections for 2019: Resort, Spring, Fall, and Pre-Fall. Welcome to the exuberant world of Fausto Puglisi:
Bright and conspicuous are two words that come to mind when I look at the designs from Puglisi’s Resort 2019 collection. I love how he paired a cinched waist, a palm tree print, and tiering on a floor-length muted pink dress. You would think all of those various components together would make for an obscene sight, but not at all, the result is a beautiful gown perfect for a sophisticated evening out.
Now, shoes. There is the peep toe, ankle strap pumps with vibrant yellow bows, the knee-high black embellished boots, the bright yellow knee-high boots, and the buckled slides. I can never turn down a unique and fun pair of shoes and these more than delivered and helped tie all the mesmerizing looks together. Fausto Puglisi’s Resort collection is nothing short of astounding.
Spring 2019 Ready-To-Wear
In a Vogue.com article by Nicole Phelps, she mentions Fausto Puglisi’s obsession with Versace, “But despite the many boldface references he makes, Puglisi’s work is unmistakably his own.” I couldn’t have put it better myself. Yes, if you are familiar with Versace’s designs, you see the inspiration, but when I look at a Fausto Puglisi design, I instantly know it’s his. Specifically his incorporation of color-blocking and cut-outs that are seen all throughout the Spring 2019 Ready-To-Wear collection. The sinuous embellished thigh-high boots and the constant presence of the sun emblem are two of my favorite things about this collection. Talk about making an intrepid fashion statement.
Geometric silhouettes, an abundance of polka dots and the ever-present appearance of the sun emblem make for an electrifying Pre-Fall 2019 collection! The designs that Puglisi presented in this collection were “inspired by a Turkish floral pattern found at Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar and reworked into Mediterranean Baroque capriccio,” according to Vogue.com’s Tiziana Cardini. From the staple item of the embellished boot and the hip-high slit in a Baroque print dress, this collection brings me straight to the southern and eastern coasts of Spain. For that reason, I can’t get enough of this imaginative vacation these designs take me on!
Fall 2019 Ready-To-Wear
With nods, through the gigantic bow, to Yves Saint Laurent and inspiration from an Ottoman rug Puglisi purchased from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, this has to be his most exuberant collection yet!
This is something he executes so well, he takes concepts and techniques that you wouldn’t think to put together and makes them work harmoniously in sync. I think this is one of the main qualities that signifies the level of high fashion. But, in my opinion, Puglisi is a step above because of the complete uniqueness of his visions for his designs and, of course, the execution. My favorite look definitely has to be the gold metallic mini dress with the plunging neckline. Just another amazing collection by a talented designer with a vivacious vision.
Fausto Puglisi is many things: talented, a trendsetter, and a master of execution. But, the one thing that sets him apart is the exuberance of his designs. There are so many signature techniques he incorporates that are uniquely Puglisi. If there’s one quality in the industry we expect in designers, it is individuality, and Puglisi expresses just that. I, for one, will always be a fan.
