5 Places to Shop Sustainable Lingerie
By: Thais Jacomassi
If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we should dress for comfort and confidence above all else. This includes shopping according to our values. Victoria’s Secret was once at the forefront of the lingerie industry, but when the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show was canceled in 2019, a void was left in the industry that could only be filled by demands for sustainability and inclusivity. Many brands have responded by implementing ethical and sustainable practices in the manufacturing of their garments. Here are a few of our favorite sustainable lingerie brands that will make you look and feel good.

Underprotection
Founded in Copenhagen in 2010, Underprotection debunks the myth that sustainable fashion is monotonous by introducing bright and colorful pieces to their collection. Along with lingerie, they sell loungewear, swimwear, and accessories—all sustainably made.

Woron
Woron—also founded in Copenhagen—seeks to change the fact that most fashion products are not made with the environment’s health in mind. They embrace the process of slow fashion by making pieces that are sustainable and durable. Their pieces are stylish and sexy without compromising comfort.

Boody
Boody is an apparel brand that prioritizes comfort above all else. Founded in Australia, Boody is the go-to for simplistic, everyday essentials that meet the standards of environmentally-aware customers. Here, you’ll find the basic building blocks that every wardrobe needs.

Mary Young
Founded in 2014 by Mary Young herself, this brand does it all by creating ethically made garments using bamboo fabric while calling for inclusivity by empowering women with different body types. Not only is the clothing itself sustainably made, but so is the packing it is shipped in. Mary Young has taken the extra step to eliminate all single-use plastics from their supplies.

Icone
Icone describes itself as “an intimate manifesto for bold women.” This European-based brand prides itself in its Parisian roots as well as its transparency. Icone gives explicit details as to how all of their garments—including, nightwear, underwear, swimwear, and more—are made and sourced.
These lingerie brands are just a few of the many that commit to sustainability without giving up style and quality. While the fashion industry is still a long way away from being environmentally friendly, the movement towards sustainability is growing, and we celebrate those at the forefront of that movement.
