5 Modest Fashion Bloggers to Follow on Instagram
By: Namra Khan
In recent years, modest fashion has become a buzzword, with hijab-clad models like Halima Aden bracing the covers of Sports Illustrated and Allure. Modest fashion is a way of dressing conservatively for those who prefer to show less skin for any number of reasons, some being- due to comfort, convenience, or religious beliefs.
Despite being a seemingly innocent term, it’s important to note that the “modest” fashion movement is not a trend—it is simply another way of dressing. Notice how modest fashion strictly alludes to how women choose to dress. Meanwhile, the majority of men dress in a ‘modest’ manner, but there has never been a movement attributed to them. Remember to be conscious when using this word as it can alienate a part of the fashion community.
Why should you follow modest fashion bloggers? Even if you don’t consider the way you dress to be ‘modest’, we can all gather inspiration from these talented ladies. Their styling abilities offer fresh perspectives, especially since dressing conservatively allows for more creative and intricate techniques such as layering to be used when manipulating greater amounts of clothing.
As a modest fashionista myself, here are some of my favorite bloggers that fall into the category.

Nawal-a Sydney based blogger is known for her natural bronzed makeup looks and iconic silk scarves (of which she owns her own collection!). But the best part of her modest fashion account is her ability to blend streetwear, classic feminine pieces, and groovy 70’s style to play with proportions, and let me tell you – she is good at it.

Want to learn how to layer contemporary pieces to make high fashion statements? Look no further than Maria Alia Al-Sadek-an NYC blogger, model, and creative consultant. Maria has been my style muse since my early teens, I have always been fascinated by her unconventional dress styling-the way she chooses to layer different tops, bottoms, and accessories that add just the right amount of dimension to an outfit.

Are you tired of the same overdone fashion looks permeating on your feed? Look no further than the eclectic aesthetics of Hodan Yousuf, a Toronto-based blogger whose unique styling abilities will have you thinking up infinitely new ways to wear the pieces already in your closet. I pay her IG account a visit when I’m all out of ideas and I’m never disappointed – Yousuf’s vintage pieces and hyper-layering cultivate inspiration.

After taking one look at her account, it’s no shock that Noore has great taste, but her feed also shows her constantly evolving style, which keeps us on our toes about upcoming designers and trends.
