10 Reasons Fall is the Best Time to Start a New Relationship
By: Kaeli Sanderson
Saying goodbye to summer is never easy. But rather than mourning the sunny days, now is the time to start gearing up for the most romantic time of year—fall. Because let’s face it, beachside concerts and summertime festivals aren’t exactly the best place to find a new relationship.
Don’t get us wrong, there is no wrong season to fall in love, but something about the change in season has everyone in the mood to settle down and find someone special. Maybe it’s the return of the PSL warming our souls or the crispness of the air bringing us a little close together this time of year.
In case you needed more reasons to fall in love this fall, here are 10 reasons why now is the best time to start a new relationship.

1. You have fewer plans
Summer is full of barbecues, late nights, and poolside parties—the perfect time for singlehood. Once fall rolls around, all of the fun summer activities have fizzled out (and likely so have your summer flings). That means you’ll have more free time on your hands and be in the mood to start a new relationship.
2. Cuddle weather
The summer months are usually way too hot and humid to get close to anyone. Unless you’re blasting the AC, cuddling up to someone is just plain uncomfortable. And the good news is, when the days start getting shorter, melatonin levels go up. That puts all of us in the mood to stay at home and lounge around more—which is always way better snuggled up with someone special.
3. Fall has the cutest seasonal date activities
Fall is the best time to join in on all of the festive activities, whether for a first-time date or with a new beau. Rather than just spending the day at the pool or hitting the patio for a bite to eat, think of all the creative things you can cross off your to-do list this fall:

- Explore local fairs and festivals
- Attend football games
- Walk through a pumpkin patch
- Carve pumpkins together
- Take a walk through a haunted house
- Get cozied up on a hayride
- Go to a cider or wine tasting
- Get lost in a corn maze
- Bake a fall dessert together
The list is endless if you get creative! You can’t go wrong even if you’re just cuddled up under a blanket with a hot cider.
4. Couples’ costumes are twice the fun
There are two types of people in this world—those who plan out their Halloween costumes months in advance and those who throw them together at the last second. Even if you’re the latter, couples’ costumes are another reason to get excited about the upcoming fall season. Dress up as characters from your all-time favorite movie or DIY each other’s outfits.
5. Dating apps and sites are packed with singles
There’s no better season than summer to meet people in person, whether at the beach, an outdoor festival, or a patio-side happy hour after work. But come fall, it seems like everyone is jumping back on the online dating bandwagon. Most of those summer flings are long over but most people are still eager to find someone before the holidays. So why not sign up with the app of your choice and get swiping?
6. You won’t be flyin’ solo for the holidays
Sometimes the shorter days and longer nights of winter bring a bit of loneliness thanks to the winter blues. But you can skip all of that if you pair up during fall. Plus, you won’t have to hear the dreaded “Why are you still single?” at family get-togethers over the holidays. If you’ve ever sat through a family dinner while single, you know what we’re talking about.
7. A ton of movies are being released
Now that the days are getting shorter and colder, more people are embracing the homebody attitude. With that comes plenty of new movies and shows to stream. Whether you’re binging the latest Netflix crime docuseries in your PJs or catching a horror movie in theaters, scary movies are the perfect excuse to curl up with your new sweetheart. Netflix and chill, anyone?
8. The Autumn hues make for the best photo ops.
Summer may have the best lighting on sunkissed skin but nothing beats a picturesque scene of golden fall leaves with your new partner. Whether you’re showing off your new outfits or cozying up with a pumpkin patch backdrop, the autumn hues make for the best photos.

9. Self-confidence is on the rise
With long days spent by the pool, everyone focuses so much on their beach body. There’s more skin bared in the summer months, which can have us more focused on attaining an ideal summer body (which can at times leave more room for self-consciousness). Now that the chillier months are upon us, we can all relax a little and jump into our favorite sweaters. It’s safe to say that self-confidence is on the up and up once we bid summer farewell.
10. All the best treats are here
Food has a way of naturally bringing people closer together. Especially if you’re both foodies, you and your new partner can bond over all the delicious treats this autumn. Apple pie, pumpkin rolls, chai pumpkin cake—you name it.
With summer nearly behind us, it’s almost time to find that person you wouldn’t mind hibernating with. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to break out your favorite fall sweater and get out there to say goodbye to singlehood.
